Georgia was named as the best tourist direction in 2016, at National Geographic Traveler Awards ceremony.

Voting electronically on the Russian website of National Geographic www.nat-geo.ru continued from 8^th of September till 6^th of November.

In the nomination “Discovery of the year”, 19 countries participated. Three finalists were revealed:

1. Georgia
2. Shri-Lanka
3. Iran

Georgia received 18% of the votes and got the first place. Awards ceremony took place in Moscow.  The prize was given to the representative of Convention and Exhibition Bureau of Georgian National Tourism Administration, Amiran Ivanidze.

In the nomination of gastronomical tourism, Georgia got the second place.  The first place was given to China with 18%, Georgia got 17.9 % of votes and Italy got a third place.
