Nonresident Investors Own 20.9 percent of Georgian Treasury Securities

Tbilisi (GBC) - Nonresident investors own 20.9 percent of Georgian treasury securities in turnover. Nonresident investors appeared on the primary and secondary markets in December 2011.

Nonresident investors carry out sales and purchase of Georgia's state securities through global custodians and Georgia-based commercial banks, including Bank of Georgia, which is a sub-custodian of global custodians State Street bank and Citibank.

Global-custodians manage large assets of several companies, including pension funds, insurance companies. They purchase Georgian securities to diversify their portfolios.

There are 563 million GEL treasury liabilities and treasury notes in turnover as of May 17, 2012.
