$316M TO BE SPENT THIS YEAR ON GEORGIAN SECTION OF BAKU-TBILISI-KARS RAILWAY

According to Regional Development and Infrastructure Ministry, this year’s budget has been approved for construction works on Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway’s Georgian section, making up $316 million. The decision has been made at bilateral coordinating council meeting, held recently in Baku. Through the mentioned sum, rehabilitation and construction of Tetritskaro-Akhalkalaki section, as well as construction of Akhalkalaki station and corresponding infrastructure facilities will be held. The council decided to launch the works within 3 weeks. Project of the Akhalkalaki station was designed by German architect Jurgen Meyer, author of Mestia airport in highland Zemo Svaneti region. Agreement on allocation of additional Azeri credit of $575 million to Georgia was signed at the sitting of the council. To remind, Azerbaijan had already allocated $200 million to Georgia within Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway’s project in February 2007.
