Ministry of Energy Wants to Extent the Deadline of "KhudonHPP" Project

''Commersant has learned exclusively that the Ministry of Energy  is holding negotiations with “KhudonHPP'' investor  “Trans Electrica" with regard to the extension of the project deadline.

 

Measuring works were halted in the  village of  Khaishi in  Mestia region last  year due to the demand of the locals. According to the Energy Ministry,  talks are underway with the investor at this stage andmeasuring works will continue in Khaishi after the talks are completed.

 

”Trans Electrica '' Technical Director David Mirtskhulava doesn’t specify  timeline of measuring work resumption  but says that works will be  suspended until  the population complete registration of  the land.

 

 In his words,  50 % of Kaishi residents have passed the registration of property  at this time.Mirtskhulava does not exclude the possibility that the process will be spread over time, but notes that an investor will try to reach an agreement with the population. It  is planned to invest 200 million USD in the construction of 800 - megawatt power plant. The project is opposed by some residents and environmental NGOs saying that it will lead to ecological catastrophe.
