Head of the Department David Shavleishvili states  "Commersant" that the opinion of some experts about the fact that Georgia needs to develop different standards of road construction, depending on the climatic conditions of different regions , is not realistic.

According to him, Georgia is located in the same climatic zone and there is no division into regions, respectively the standard of materials used in road construction is the same throughout the country.

However, a number of experts believe that it is necessary to adopt different standards of the bitumen for different regions, where climatic conditions are different.

As for the quality control of bitumen, then he notes, in 2013 the department together with the Ministry of Finance has started conducting the examinations to determine the quality of the imported material.

"Testing of bitumen produced results, as substandard parties were identified, which, of course, have been returned to the supplier countries . Control is carried out on a selective basis. During construction works the quality of the roads is controlled, particularly, bitumen samples are taken  and checked in a laboratory. According to its results, a report on the work done is prepared. But this year the inspection will be tightened,"- David Shavleyshvili dds.

In his words, currently the construction works are  carried out in Georgia according to international standards and in compliance with all building codes.

"The document, which defines the standards of road construction in the country, complies with international normsso at this point the question of reviewing them is not on the agenda" - the official states.
