The European Union (EU) has revealed its plans to organise major investment conferences in Moldova and Georgia to coincide with visits by European Commission President José Manuel Barroso to those countries on 12 and 13 June respectively.

The conferences will focus on business activities and the investment market in Moldova and Georgia, because the EU believed "experience in other countries in Europe showed that that was where the new agreements would bring the biggest long-term economic benefits”.

In a report recently released on the EU’s webpage, the EU reaffirmed its objective to further strengthen political association and economic integration with both countries, and aimed to sign the Association Agreements including Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas (AA/DCFTAs) no later than June 2014.

The EU believed one of the main benefits of the conferences would be for potential investors to Georgia and Moldova to discuss how the AA/DCFTA’s would impact them in practical terms for their businesses.

"The conferences will also provide opportunities for businesses to showcase themselves and to promote their products and services. International financial institutions and business support organisations will also provide participants with information about their activities in Moldova and Georgia,” the report read.

Each conference is expected to be held in an interactive format. The detailed programs for both conferences will be published in May. The Georgia conference is expected to be held in Tbilisi.

The EU encouraged the international community who were interested in attending the conferences to remember the AA/DCFTA’s would benefit investors from all countries who do business in Moldova and Georgia.
