Gov’t Plans to Lease the Palace of the Romanovs

Borjomi resort  meets season with a renovated infrastructure-  10 guest  houses and a 4 - starhotel "Natalie" were opened, so at this stage  three  4 - star hotels five   3-star and  2-star hotels are functioning in the resort. 

According to a representative of Borjomi Information Center Arthur Stepanyan, there is no change inprices in hotels compared with last yearan average hotel stay  for one person without  food costs  GEL20-30while the most expensive service including  food costs  USD 110.

 

As for the number of tourists, Stepanyan notes that the number of tourists from January to the present day  has increased  2 times more than last year

 

In his words, there is a lack of hotels in Borjomi, which prevents the entry of certain segment of tourists.


In addition, Stepanyan says that  they receive many  letters requesting  to visit the Palace of the Romanovs and the tourists are willing to pay 10-15 Euro. "It would be nice if the Romanov Palace opened," - he adds.


First Deputy Minister of Economy states that this time the closed Romanov Palace is fully on the state’s balance sheetHowever, in order to start the functioning it needs an operatorAccording to Dimitri  Kumsishvili,  the government is considering the lease of  the historic Palace of the Romanovssince its privatization is prohibited. Economy Ministry does not specify when it will announce a tender.The Deputy Minister says as soon as the person interested in the object appears,  a tender will beimmediately announced.
