“Oriental Consultants Company Limited”, Japanese engineering -consulting consortium having international experience, whichcarried out a study commissioned by the Partnership Fund for the development of a new port in the Black Sea waters, has completedthe work and selected Anaklia as the best place for the port.
According to the Executive Director of the Partnership Fund (PF) Irakli Kovzanadze, the port which will be built in Anaklia will be able to serve large vessels (the so-called "Panamax").
"International studies show that the rate ofcontainer traffic is growing by 18 percent annually, which has raised the need to build a new port inGeorgia. Moreover, the ports of Batumi and Poti have practically mastered their own capacities, "- saidKovzanadze.
According to the Economic Council’s decision of July 2, expression of interest to participate in theAnaklia port project will be announced next week. The PF management states that the Fund alreadyhas the technical - economic justification of the new port as well as its original design and the General Plan.
