Another international airport is going to be opened in Georgia. As reported, a new contemporary airport will be brought into operation in the Black Sea town Poti in about 18 months.

Foundation of the building was laid on Wednesday. Georgia`s president laid a symbolic capsule into teh foundation.

Mikheil Saakashvili talked about prospects of development of Poti and significance of the new airport.

The president said the Poti International Airport is expected to become a precondition for development of tourism infrastructure in the region. He also said the Poti airport is going to be the largest and most contemporary in Georgia as well as the whole region.

"The Poti airport is a very serious breakthrough for us in terms of developing this region as well as whole Georgia. This is an ideally selected town and site for the most important infrastructural project in this field.

"This airport is going to work in any kind of weather. All types of aircrafts will be able to land in this airport. This is going to be the most contemporary airport in Georgia and Caucasus. This is going to be the airport which will permanently bring tourists, businesspersons. This airport is going to earn more income for each of our families", Saakashvili said.

He stressed development of regions of Western Georgia is impossible without a large airport.
