Deadline for the Construction of Port in Anaklia Extended

The due date for submitting applications for the participation in the tender for the construction of a port in Anaklia, which expired on October 1, has been extended until October 15.

 According to the Ministry of Economy, many companies are interested in the project, although the Ministry doesn’t  specify them. 

"Based on the fact that the number of applications is growing, and to reveal the winner of the tender via the maximum possible competition, the government decided to extend the acceptance of applications. This practice is provided by  the relevant legislation, "- say in the Ministry. 

It is known that the American company AECOM showed an interest in the construction of a deepwater port in Anaklia which has applied for participation in the tender.

Construction of a deep water port in the Black Sea village of Anaklia is scheduled to begin in 2015. The construction place was chosen as a result of  a study conducted by a Japanese consulting companyOriental Consultants Company.

The port cost will amount to USD  700 -900 million. The first phase of construction will be completed in roughly 3 years, the project consists of  7 phases, of which 3 are  mandatory. 
In  12 years the Anaklia  port can handle 40 million tons of cargo

The port will be able to accept heavy vessels that can accommodate 500 containers. In general, theport can handle 100 million tons of cargo.
