bilisi City Hall  is preparing a project ofdevelopment of  Tbilisi.

According to Deputy Mayor Alexander Margishvili, the program provides offloading of the main streets and the development of new districts, a special commission is already working on this issue, and the document will be ready by December.Development companies are also involved in thediscussion of the project.

"Tbilisi, and in particular its central part, isextremely congested city, and this problem must be solved. The Mayor's Office is developing  a project meant for 7-8 years, which will make the city more modern, comfortable for  living and beautiful,"- says Vice-Mayor.

Work on the project "New Tbilisi" began two years ago under the previous government, but the municipality does not recognize this fact.

At the initiative of the then Mayor of Tbilisi Gigi Ugulava, in 2012  a new district was planned to be built  in one of the city's outskirts. Information about this project is still placed on the site of the Tbilisi City Hall.

It was assumed that the new city would be built on an area of 230 hectares and divided into several zones, which would be provided with all necessary infrastructure.

"There will be housed government offices, office buildings, residential buildings, recreational areas, where transport infrastructure will be developed, projects will be implemented that could attract investors. Both Georgian and foreign experts will be involved in the work on the project. An emphasisshould be done on the undeveloped territoriesThousands of new jobs will be createdlargeinvestments will be attracted that will contribute to the growth of employment of citizens,"- theformer  Mayor of Tbilisi Gigi Ugulava and Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said  during a presentation of the project.

The aim of the project is the development and expansion of the capital, which will give an opportunity to attract investment, relieve the city and create new residential areas - this is particularly importantif we consider that in Tbilisi for one person accounts for 14.5 sq.m of housing - while in Europe an average of 30 sq.m.

"This new district will be the first sign in the idea of developing a new Tbilisi. It  will allow to create prospects for the city development and will give Tbilisians the opportunity to gradually improve their living conditions. The new project will launch a new strategy for urban development and implement what many people think impossible today, "- said the then Mayor Gigi Ugulava
