A high-speed passenger train will help tourists travel between Georgia and Armenia this summer.

From June 15, a train will operate between Georgia’s Black Sea city Batumi and Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, for the duration of the 2015 summer season to carry tourists between the two countries.

The train will have two rolling stocks and will travel daily. Tickets can be purchased at railways stations in Yerevan, Tbilisi and Batumi. The cost of tickets has not been determined yet.

One-way travel will take about eight hours.

Georgian Railway noted the trains were now faster than in previous years, thanks to works being carried out on the route. Specifically, travel between Yerevan and Batumi has reduced by 33 minutes, while the trip from Batumi to Yerevan has been slashed by one hour.

Georgian and Armenian railways expect a three-fold increase this year on the number of tourists travelling on the passenger train than previous years.

A cooperation agreement between Georgian and Armenian railways was signed on April 9, 2011. This agreement expressed both parties’ readiness to cooperate on questions connected with transportations of passengers, rail transportation, improvements of infrastructure, information interchange and on other questions concerning railway measures.
