Georgia will have a new large city in the future, which will be
called Lazika - Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili announced during
his visit to Zugdidi on Sunday.
Saakashvili said the plan of new city`s construction is estimated on
the next ten years and it will be main trade-economic and commercial
centre in the West of Georgia connected to the country`s transport and
railway highways.
`We have decided to found a new large city between Anaklia and
Kulevi, which we`ll name Lazika. It will be a very large city, because,
according to my calculations, in ten years, it will have about half a
million residents and it will be second largest city of Georgia after
Tbilisi, it will be main trade-commercial and economic centre in the
Western Georgia and the main centre on the Black Sea. Next year we`ll
begin major works, construction of a new port, roads, water systems,
we`ll dry the swamps and employ several thousands of people on these
works,` Saakashvili announced.
