The area surrounding Tbilisi Sea is set to undergo major infrastructural development to turn the area into a bustling district with medical centres, schools, trade districts, an ecologically friendly housing area and more.
Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili visited the 200-250 hectare construction site today, located on the outskirts of Georgia’s capital Tbilisi and reviewed the progress.
The Tbilisi Sea development project included building kindergartens, schools, sport and recreation centres, medical and rehabilitation centres and a trade district. It will also foresee establishment of residential villas, cottages and apartments.
The whole area will be classed as an Eco Green City where 90 percent of the energy used by all facilities will be generated from solar, wind, hydro power and bio gas.
The project was being managed by the same investor who built Gino Paradise waterpark about two years ago, also on the Tbilisi Sea territory.
At Gino Paradise today the waterpark’s founder Nodar Giorgadze introduced Garibashvili to the Eco Green City project.
Afterwards PM Garibashvili said: "Gino Paradise is the largest project that has been implemented in the South Caucasus. Georgian investor Nodar Giorgadze invested $28 million USD in this project. We have discussed other projects that are designed to develop the Tbilisi Sea area.”
About $100 million USD will be invested in the first stage. In total one billion USD might be invested in this territory,” Garibashvili added.
The PM said the Eco Green City project was being discussed by the Ministry of Economy and Tbilisi City Hall.
As well as this we also plan to implement several projects in [winter resort towns] Gudauri and Bakuriani. Furthermore we are also discussing the camping state camping program [where] initial plans involve creating 10 camping places. This initiative belongs to Nodar Giorgadze and we support it as much as possible,” Garibashvili said.
Giorgadze explained there were plans to build a Gino Paradise waterpark in Bakuriani, which would be open all-year round.
Recently, an Olympic Village boasting about a dozen apartment blocks and five-star Hualing Tbilisi hotel opened on the shorelines of Tbilisi Sea.
In the future Tbilisi Zoo will be relocated to a new location near Tbilisi Sea after it was mostly demolished in the June 13 flash flood.
