A leading German company that producers and operates some of the world’s most recognised brands and technologies is coming to Georgia.

Henkel, the global producer of laundry and home care, beauty care and adhesive technologies, announced Georgia would be the base of its first plant in Transcaucasia.

The new plant will be located in Gardabani municipality, 39km south of Georgia’s capital Tbilisi.

About €6 million of investments will be spent on constructing the new plant in Georgia, which will only produce adhesive materials.

Today Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with company representatives for a special ceremony to mark the beginning of the plant’s construction.

"We are glad that such large company like Henkel is entering Georgia and the region for the first time,” said Garibashvili.

"I met the company representatives in Davos back in January. Building a plant in Gardabani is a result of that meeting. We welcome German discipline and quality in Georgia,” he said.

The plant is due to open in 2016.

Georgian locals will be employed at the plant and the output will initially be sold in the Georgian market before being exported to Armenia and Azerbaijan in the future.
