Bakuriani, Georgia’s one of the leading ski resorts, is today celebrating the opening of a renewed ski lift station on Mount Kokhta.

The Kokhta cableway was brought back to life after an eight-year pause.

The Bakuriani Kokhta piste was also restored and now it was even longer. The total length of the Kokhta ski trail was three kilometres and hundred metres.

The rehabilitation was completed in three months in order to open the new ski lift at the beginning of the season. A leading Austrian company Doppelmayr carried out all work.

Professional skiers were especially excited about the renovation as now the Kokhta ski trail became the most challenging trail in Bakuriani.
The opening of the upgraded infrastructure was attended by Georgia’s Prime Minister candidate Giorgi Kvirikashvili and acting Ministers of the Georgian Cabinet.

The multi-million project was unique as it was the result of collaboration between the state and the private sector.

Rehabilitation of the Kokhta ski trail was conducted in partnership with Georgian private business representative TBC Group. The key actors from the state side were the Ministry of Economy, National Agency for State Property Management and Mountain Resorts Development Company.

Authorities believed the rehabilitation of the historic cableway in Bakuriani would attract more holiday makers from Georgia and abroad.

Today the opening of the new cableway was marked with Bakuriani hosting the first phase of the Ski Championship of Georgia.
