Georgia is hosting two important meetings of the World Tourism Organisation (WTO), which are being held outside of Spain for the first time.
The fifth meeting of the Technical Advisory Board of the World Tourism Organisation and the 16th meeting of the Tourism Satellite Accounts Committee are encompassed under one umbrella, and launched today in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi.
Hosting the meetings was a coup for Georgia as it was the first time the meetings were held outside of Spain, where the meetings traditionally take place.
A number of world tourism experts, including the WTO’s Executive Director for Operational Programmes and Institutional Relations Marcio Favilla Lucca de Paula, were visiting Georgia to take part in the two-day meetings.

While here Mr Favilla Lucca de Paula will meet Georgia’s Minister of Economy Dimitry Kumsishvili and head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration Giorgi Chogovadze.
The Administration announced it was important for Georgia to host the WTO meetings as it would help the country improve its process when making statistics and implement more modern approaches in this direction.
Later this year Georgia will host another major tourism event.
In autumn 2016 Georgia will host the first global conference on wine tourism.
