After the new regulation enters  into force ,  the architect will be required to make the project taking into account the common standards - sizes of doors , area of the corridor, which will allow to evacuate residents in case of fire, etc.

The new rules will take effect from 1 January 2017. The  regulation has been approved and construction companies are given time till January 1 to explore all the standards and adapt their activities to them.

According to David Gigineishvili, the head of the Department of Construction Policy at the Ministry of Economy of Georgia, the  regulation regulates fire safety in  premises.

"To date, all of these and many other questions are resolved  by  architects and builders depending on their desire. They can choose whatever standard - European, American and even  the Soviet. Everything depended on their will. Since 2017 the situation will change, and all construction companies will have to comply with common standards "- the official notes.

The architect Nikoloz Abashidze assesses  the introduction of the single rules to comply with the safety standards during  construction  as  a positive fact. In his words,  today several standards are enacted in Georgia but none of them is optimal.

However, Tornike Abuladze,  a representative of the Association of Georgian  Developers, doesn’t  agree with the government’s initiative.

"This 600-page document contains  certain items that are acceptable to all and should be taken, but there are those which  can’t be useful for the sector . It would be better to launch  the new norms  in a test mode at the first stage. It is not excluded that the new regulation will lead to a rise in price of real estate, "- he explains.

Dimitri Kumsishvili, Minister of Economy of Georgia, announced  that the new regulations will come into force from January 1, 2017.

"We started discussing new security standards of buildings. These regulations will come into force on January 1, 2017. The real estate companies and architects will have  a whole year to adapt to new conditions. This is quite a voluminous document which should be studied  in detail  by all stakeholders. And most importantly, it will be a single standard that would be abided  by all architects and construction companies, "- the Minister of Economy states.
