The winter season in the ski resorts of Georgia will continue until mid-May - Sandro Onoprishvili,  the head of the Mountain Resorts Development Company, says.

In his words,  there is every reason to be satisfied with the current winter season, as during the New Year  holidays all the resorts were crowded with tourists.

There was a problem with the water supply in Gudauri at the peak of the season, but it has been solved, and the available data show that  the current season is  the best in the past few years. The number of tourists has increased by 14% compared to the same period in 2015. The construction of the cableway  in Bakuriani has given  a great impetus to the development of the resort that was reflected in the number of tourists, "- Sandro Onoprishvili says.

He talks about   great interest showed in the new ski resort Goderdzi in Adjara.

"Currently, we are negotiating with private companies regarding their participation in  the development  of the resort  ," - Sandro Onoprishvili explains.

He adds that  this year the season will be extended until May, and, if necessary, ski slopes will be covered with artificial snow.

In 2015 the winter tourist season opened on the 5th of December that was  the earliest opening in the past 20 years.
