ECONOMY MINISTER: 508 HOTELS WERE PUT IN OPERATION DURING THE LAST 3 YEARS, EXCEEDING BY 58% THE QUANTITY, FIXED THROUGH 2012

Dimitri Kumsishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, declared that during the last 3 years, 508 hotels were put in operation, exceeding by 58% number of hotels, put in operation through 2012. Respectively, 41.5% of all hotels were put in operation in 2013-2015, he pointed. In future, more than 60 accommodation facilities are planned to launch, which will provide additional 3,800 beds to tourism sector, the Minister said. Kumsishvili has declared the mentioned, while summing up results of tourism season of 2016 today. He noted that international travelers’ number has grown by 8.2% in 8 months of this year and made up 4.25 million. As the Minister said, Sakstat has adjusted data of tourism sector, which show that in 2015, Georgia had hosted 5.9 million international visitors, fixing growth of 7% in this term. Besides, tourism generated $1.94 billion to Georgia’s balance of international payments, share of this sector in Georgia’s GDP makes up 6.7% and it employs about 158,000 people, Kumsishvili noted.
