Tourism Sector Revenues Hit Record Figures in 2016

In September 2016 the quantity of international visitors rose by 11% and the inflow of tourists increased by 34.2%. The statistical indicators were introduced by Giorgi Chogovadze, Head of the National Tourism Administration of Georgia.

Only in September, 631 302 international visitors arrived in Georgia, up 62 615 ones compared to the same period of 2015. The quantity of tourists made up 304 814 ones, up 77 660 ones compared to September 2015.

The highest inflow of tourists was registered from Azerbaijan (+7.6%). Armenia is second (+4.2%), Russia is third (+31.3%), Turkey is fourth (-21.5%) and Iran is fifth (+571.9%), Chogovadze noted.

The January-September indicators prove that the country maintains growth tendency. Total quantity of international tourists made up 4 879 031 visitors, up 384 690 ones compared to the same period of 2015 (+8.6%). At the same time, the quantity of tourism visits made up 2 156 731, up 352 411 compared to the same period of 2015 (+19.5%).

At the briefing, according to two quarters of 2016, revenues from foreign tourism made up 867.9 million USD (+31.2), up 101 million USD compared to the same period of 2015. The determined plan is being implemented scrupulously and revenues from the tourism sector will hit record figures in 2016, Giorgi Chogovadze noted.
